Dear Family and Friends,
Since the beginning of April this year I have ridden my bike 190 miles. This August, I will ride that distance again, but doing it in only two days!
I will be joining 5000 other riders in the two day, 192 mile Pan Massachusetts Challenge charity bike ride. The PMC is in its 31st year of riding and its 31st year of donating to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, through the Jimmy Fund. Last year alone the PMC donated more than 30 million dollars to help fight cancer.
An amazing thing about the PMC is that they make an effort to contribute 100% of rider raised funds to Dana-Farber – and have succeeded in that goal for the past several years. Imagine the good works that can be done by donations that aren’t skimmed for overhead expenses! This year’s goal is to raise 31 million dollars, and, if the enthusiasm I felt in the room at “New Rider’s Orientation” night is indicative of the rest of the 5000, we will surely make that mark.
My part of the 31 million is just $4200. I am coming to you, my family and friends, and asking you to help me reach this goal. Your donation will not go towards future fundraising, staff salaries or food at the pit stops. Every dollar will go towards cancer treatments and research at Dana-Farber. Each dollar you give will help to change the life of an actual cancer patient.
So many of us have stories of how cancer has touched our lives, or the lives of people we love. I am raising funds so that future generations can tell stories of how they overcame cancer with the help of Dana-Farber. In addition, I am training for the ride with the goal of improving my health and reducing my risk of needing any of the funds raised. You can help on both fronts by donating what you can and by encouraging me during the next few months of training.
